Abstract

The varicella zoster virus (VZV) is a highly neurotropic virus with a worldwide distribution. Cerebral infarction resulting from cerebral vasculitis is an uncommon CNS manifestation of VZV infection. It is presumed to be invaded directly by the virus into cerebral arteries. A 30-year-old man visited to our hospital with headache and sensory change at the left side face after VZV infection. On the MRI, cerebral infarction at left medulla was noted. We report a case of lateral medullary infarction presumably caused by small vessel vasculopathy after VZV infection.
